Benefits of professional installation
Save time and effort. An experienced installer finishes the floor faster: one fitter lays ~8–12 m² per day.

Quality guarantee. Correct expansion gaps (8–10 mm), locks click tight. Level subfloor: variations over ±3 mm over 2 m are levelled before laying. Proper prep avoids later defects.
Correct underlay and vapour barrier. Manufacturers recommend PE film ≥0.2 mm under planks on concrete or underfloor heating. The specialist will choose the right underlay type.
Final trim and clean-up. Skirting, thresholds, removal of dust and adhesive. Always clarify the scope in your request.
Professional installation gives you confidence the floor will last for years without creaks or buckling.
Work stages (typical process)
All steps are in the installation instructions. Main steps for a «floating floor»:

- Site inspection. Assess existing floor, moisture (max ~70% RH, concrete per norms) and level (±3 mm over 2 m).
- Removal and subfloor prep. Old floor and skirting off if needed. Levelling, priming. Subfloor must meet SisäRYL 2013.
- Laminate acclimatisation. Material in room at least 48 h (approx. 18–20 °C, 30–70% RH) before laying.
- Underlay and vapour barrier. Underlay (foil or foam PE), PE film ≥0.2 mm on concrete/UFH, perimeter strip.
- Layout and cutting. Start line from wall (~10 mm gap). Planks cut with allowance. Pattern repeat considered.
- Laying laminate. First row tongue to wall, then each plank at 20–30° and down to click. Seams tight. Hammer and tapping block.
- Thresholds and skirting. Skirting after laying. Thresholds between rooms.
- Check and clean-up. No clicking, floor level. Waste and dust removed. Guarantee accepted with client.
Materials and tools
Material choice is critical for durability. Laminate varies by thickness, wear class (AC) and moisture resistance:

| Type / class | Advantages | Disadvantages | Recommended rooms | Price, € (guide) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| AC3 (7–8 mm) | Budget-friendly, suits bedrooms and living rooms at medium load | Less resistant to heavy wear, not for damp zones | Bedroom, living room, hall (low/moderate load) | ≈ €7–10/m² |
| AC4 (8–10 mm) | For intensive use (kitchen, office, retail) | More expensive, less forgiving on poor subfloors | Kitchen, corridor, hall; offices (medium load) | ≈ €10–20/m² |
| AC5 (10–12 mm) | Maximum strength – heavy traffic (retail, café, office) | Most expensive, needs a very level floor | Commercial spaces, very active family areas | ≈ €20–30/m² |
| Moisture-resistant (HDF) | Water-repellent layer – washable, underfloor heating, spill-resistant | Significantly higher price; usually ≥8 mm | Kitchen, bathroom, entrance zones | from ≈ €15/m² |
Note: Wear class (AC3–AC5) describes intended use. When buying, pay attention to thickness and wear layer.
Tools: mitre or circular saw, spacers, tapping block/hammer, ruler, screwdriver, drill. Consumables: underlay (2–5 mm), film 0.2–0.4 mm, tape, skirting, thresholds.

FAQ
Can I walk on the new floor right away?
Laminate is «floating» – you can walk on it immediately. Do not place heavy items right after installation; let the floor «settle» for a few hours.
What does the guarantee cover?
Usually: no clicking, tight seams and stable board geometry. Seams reopening at corners count as an installation defect. Agree this with the specialist in advance.
I see a bubble or gap – what to do?
Small creases and voids often smooth out after installation; larger ones need correction. Under the guarantee the specialist will redo the problem area.
